The project will support the existing ecosystem of a 300-acre Park established in 1870 and is home to more than 5000 trees of different species from flowering to non-flowering ones, with many species of Birds, Migratory Birds, Butterflies and Reptiles.
The Park is a catchment area for the surrounding region and also needs over one lakh litres of water every day for itself.
The project will serve the purpose of supporting the water needs of the park and making sure the shallow aquifer is recharged as currently the pond is dry half the year and silt accumulation doesn’t allow water percolation
The work on the Kalyani (pond) expansion provide employment to traditional well diggers community who otherwise have difficulty in finding work.
